Dear Shelton Families,

I am grateful for such a remarkable 2015-2016 school-year here at Shelton and am excited to start a new one as well!

Shelton is a very fortunate school to have the amazing parent support and community involvement. Because of our parent dedication, Shelton has created many opportunities for students to be successful. Through the silent auction and the PTSA support this last year, we are able to purchase more laptops, chromebooks, and mini iPads. Now all of first grade will be a 1:1 iPad grade level. Our computer lab has new computers, hence more computers will be available in classrooms. Shelton has a very involved Health and Wellness Committee, Playground Committee, PTSA and Community Garden Committee. We've begun planning ways improve our playground so it is more kid and environmentally friendly. In addition, we are hoping to break ground soon on our Community Garden. Also in the works is a new shade structure up by the fall, 2016. Our Watch D.O.G.S. program is thriving and we have many dads, step-dads, grandpas and uncles volunteering their time daily in classrooms and on the playground. Shelton had its second talent show and its first musical in over ten years. Shelton is an amazing school and has so much to offer all students.

Students are why we do what we do every day. Our students are our number one priority. We have many bright, creative, dedicated, compassionate, athletic and talented students here at Shelton. We know, as Rita Pierson (educator) stated in one of her seminars, "every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be." That's what we strive for at Shelton. We want to be that champion cheering on your children helping them to be the best they can be. See the video here.

Families are also supporting Shelton every time they shop at King Soopers. Please continue to use the King Soopers cards as the money we receive helps with computers, materials for students, trainings for teachers, computer licenses for students, etc. If you buy groceries and gas at any King Soopers or Loaf & Jugs, King Soopers will donate 5% of what you spend directly to Shelton. You can participate in this fantastic program and help Shelton meet its fundraising goal of $20,000. Other family members such as grandparents can participate too. Purchase a $5 reloadable gift card from our King Soopers coordinator,Debbie South. The card comes with a $5 balance. You can also download (king_soopers_card_form2__1_.pdf) or pick up an order form at the front desk and return it to Shelton. Our PTSA is actively involved and very supportive of Shelton and we couldn't be more thankful.

I am looking forward to this school year and my third year as principal. I am also looking forward to getting to know all of our new students and families and having them join . . . TEAM SHELTON!

Thank you for what you do for our school. We couldn't do it without your support. Our partnership is invaluable.

Educationally yours,

Karen Brown
